Sergio Perez walked away unscathed from a huge 160mph crash on a crazy opening lap of the Monaco Grand Prix.<br/><br/>The Mexican, starting 16th, was tagged by the Haas of Kevin Magnussen heading uphill after the first corner, Sainte Devote. The Dane’s front left caught Perez’s rear right, sending the latter into the barriers.<br/><br/>In dramatic pinball action, Perez then darted into the other Haas of Nico Hulkenberg, bringing out a red flag while the debris was cleared.<br/><br/><br/>Perez’s Red Bull was all but destroyed with just one wheel left attached, though the monocoque protected the driver from physical damage.<br/><br/>In a mad start, the two Alpines tangled, sending Esteban Ocon airborne on the entry to the tunnel. He landed safely but retired from the race under the red flag due to the damage his car suffered. <br/><br/>Carlos Sainz, running third for Ferrari, stopped at Casino Square as he appeared to go in too deep, after contact with Oscar Piastri at the start. <br/><br/>Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc led from the pole with McLaren’s Piastri second before the stoppage.<br/><br/>The stewards took no action in the Perez-Magnussen-Hulkenberg collision – and rightly so for a racing incident on the first lap (where the stewards try to be more lenient).<br/><br/>Ocon was handed a 10-second penalty, but he didn’t restart the race in any case.<br/><br/>Racing resumed at 2.46 pm (3.46 pm local time) after debris was cleared from the circuit.<br/><br/>Stewards confirmed Sainz would resume in third at the restart, with drivers having not progressed enough around the first lap to establish a new order. <br/><br/>The race resumed without Perez, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, and Ocon following the crash.<br/><br/>Speaking on Sky Sports, former world champion Jenson Button suggested Perez and Magnussen should have given each other more room. <br/><br/>‘It's surprising [Perez] knew [Magnussen] was there and didn't move to the left a little bit more,’ Button said.<br/><br/>‘It was a horrible impact and because you're going at such a high speed there you end up about 300 metres away from the incident.<br/><br/>‘It's a real strange one. You've got to say both guys should have given each other more room.<br/><br/>‘Is it a racing incident? It kind of is because Checo knew Kevin was there and maybe should have given him a little bit more room, but if a car is coming to the right doing 150mph, I'd back out.’

The Burrell Collection.<br/><br/>Discovering Degas: Collecting in the Time of Sir William Burrell is the first-time visitors can see all 23 Degas works from Burrell's original collection at the same time, alongside 28 further world-class paintings, works on paper and sculptures on loan from 13 of the UK and Europe’s finest national and international collections.<br/><br/>Set to be one of the must-see Scottish shows of the summer, Discovering Degas is the first, major exhibition to be held at the museum since it reopened in 2022, after a £68 million refurbishment.<br/><br/>Staged by Glasgow Life, the charity that leads on culture and sport in the city, the exhibition will explore the collecting and buying of Degas artworks by Sir William Burrell and his wife Constance, Lady Burrell, who donated one of the single greatest gifts to the city of Glasgow.<br/><br/>As shown through fascinating letters and other archival material, Burrell is amongst the earliest Scottish collectors to buy works by Degas. Over a 40-year collecting period he bought over 20 artworks spanning the artist’s career, far more than any other UK collector.<br/><br/>By bringing these together with loans from The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, British Museum, The Courtauld, National Museums Liverpool Walker Art Gallery, Museums Northumberland, The National Gallery London, Tate, V&A, Amgueddfa Cymru Museum Wales, Hugh Lane Gallery Dublin, The Hunterian, National Galleries of Scotland and Musée d’Orsay, Paris, Discovering Degas provides an important opportunity to better understand Degas and a unique introduction and fresh perspective on a hugely popular art movement.<br/><br/>Loans are supported by the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund. Created by the Garfield Weston Foundation and Art Fund, the Weston Loan Programme is the first ever UK-wide funding scheme to enable smaller and local authority museums to borrow works of art and artefacts from national collections.<br/><br/>Pippa Stephenson-Sit, Curator of European Art at Glasgow Life Museums, who co-curated the exhibition, said: “Discovering Degas has been an absolute joy to work on. He cultivated relationships and recognised opportunities for selling his work to British art collectors, who were beginning to develop a taste for modern French art.
